Faces

Ok folks, Faces at 659 N 300 W. in Salt Lake City, UT.
This place is an amazing place to just have a beer and enjoy the company of the owner Ernest, and his wife Gloria! I have not felt so comfortable in a Dive Bar ever. The atmosphere is just super relaxed, I felt like I could have a conversation with anyone there, it seemed that those who show up there were just as laid-back as I am.

I also had a sampling of the ribs they cook there, AMAZING! I heard the catfish is to die for too!

Anytime I'm in the area, I'm going to be getting my relax on at Faces!
I hope to see you there.

Valley Fair Mall, West Valley City, Utah, Nice Rebuild, But They Missed The Boat

I have spent the better part of my 38 years in West Valley City. The city has always been plagued with an "image crisis." Yes they are the second largest city in Utah, but they have an unshakable reputation of being "Ghetto" and slightly lower than the "norm."

So the "geniuses" at the West Valley Planning Commission, decide to overhaul the mall district. The structures themslves are new and attractive- way to go guys- you created a fabulous facade. Problem is, I just visited the mall district today for a couple hours, Although I was only mildly impressed with the rebuild efforts, I still felt a high level of insecurity. I felt rather unsafe and vunerable. I noticed that the merchants associated to the mall complex were rather low-end to mediocre merchants. The highest-end retailer being Macy's (not too impressive). When your putting "anchor" stores such as Ross, and the most elegant resturaunt being Olive Garden, and then are peppered with a pleothera of cell phone retailers of all sorts, you are going to still attract the same unsavory clientele that has plagued West Valley.

I suppose It may have been quite a "hard sell" to get some "high end" retailers in the area , given the local demographic. But I also know that there is a tried and true psychological phenomenon, that WE BECOME LIKE WHO WE ASSOCIATE WITH. I am confident that if West Valley seriously wanted to overhaul it's image, it needs desparately to bring in high-end retailers and resturaunts. West Valley and all those involved spent a vast amount of money to bring Trax into the mall district. What is my motivation to hop on a Trax train from downtown to the West Valley mall complex? NONE. It's all mid to low-end merchants, I feel unsafe there.

I'm sorry West Valley, you seriously missed the boat here. As a side note, I personally had the opportunity in 2002 after the passing of mayor Gerald Wright to become the new mayor of West Valley [I was one of 12 candidates, my name is Daniel Muhlestein]. My vision for West Valley would have been to set the bar much higher than it has been. The "powers that be" have chosen their fate.

Utah Company Challenges Monsanto

Monsanto Company
800 North Lindbergh Blvd.
St. Louis, Missouri
63167

Dear Gerald,

You don't know me, and I don't have any credibility or prior business relationship with you or your company.

As President of New Revolution Ventures, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, I am writing to you, Hugh Grant, Brett D. Begemann, Pierre Courduroux, Dr. Robert T. Fraley, Tom D. Hartley, Janet M. Holloway, Consuelo E. Madere, Steven C. Mizell, Kerry J. Preete, Nicole M. Ringenberg, and David F. Snively, because I am looking for the most appropriate, correct, key senior executives to answer my questions as to why you have not been held in violation of the 1970 RICO act with your attempts to monopolize the market place on agriculture, thereby extorting civilization into purchasing only your genetically altered seeds. Would you personally be comfortable in having your family and loved ones ingesting produce and other goods which have been altered at their most basic levels? Why is it that humanity has survived just fine for thousands of years on food that has not been altered? Now your company feels it is necessary to fundamentally alter the food source? It is our opinion that you are deliberately attempting to gain control over the population via food modification. Thus your patents on your designer crop seeds etc. Our crops are not broke, don’t try and “fix them”. I would be fascinated with any response you have.

This exact letter has also been sent to US Attorney General, Eric H. Holder, Jr., US Patent and Trademark Director, David Kappos, and various major media outlets. Why? The Hobbs Act defines "extortion" as "the obtaining of property from another, with his consent, induced by wrongful use of actual or threatened force, violence, or fear, or under color of official right." 18 U.S.C. S 1951(b)(2). Since the mid-1990s, it has sued 145 individual US farmers for patent infringement in connection with its genetically engineered seed. [55]The usual claim involves violation of a technology agreement that prohibits farmers from saving seed from one season's crop to plant the next, a common farming practice.[56] One farmer received an eight-month prison sentence for violating a court order to destroy seeds,[57] in addition to having to pay damages, when a Monsanto case turned into a criminal prosecution. Source- (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto) Sounds like “threatened force, and fear” to me. How is this not a violation of the RICO act?

Our business is helping people understand their rights and what freedoms are available to them. We are in the business of propagating true freedom and entrepreneurialism.

Your response is eagerly anticipated,

Daniel J. Muhlestein

A Suprisingly Cool News Magazine

For the past 2 months I have picked up a copy of "Utah Stories" free news magazine http://www.utahstories.com I have not been disappointed with this magazine. It is super low-budget which includes typographical errors and all, but I love this magazine because it seems to be a very honest and straight-forward publication. It relies solely on its trusted advertisers for support and income. I say "trusted" because the magazine won't allow just anyone to buy ad space with them. They have to feel comfortable with your business before they will allow you to purchase ad space. So as an experiment, I ordered their Press Kit to get a better idea of how their ad sales work. Since I just ordered the kit today, I have nothing to report on as far as that is concerned. (details to be had in an upcoming post). The magazine also features articles about small local business and their success stories. Today was the second issue I picked up (I was even hesitant to do so)I was waiting at an intersection waiting to cross and the box with the magazines was all of 25 feet away from me. I told myself, "Hell it's free, just go get one". I was again pleasantly surprised with the stories inside the publication. I am now enamored with this cool little-known publication. I will look forward each month to picking up the current copy.

A New Direction For This Blog

This blog has been dormant for an unfortunate long time. Mainly because I didn't know what to write about on a regular basis. I have decided that since this is a business blog, and I am a connoisseur of good service and good business, I have decided to write about businesses that I notice that have caught my attention. Either they have impressed me, or pissed me off, or perhaps they are just worth writing home about. I welcome any and all comments and/or suggestions, positive and negative alike.
